What to do next:

  • Contact a District Short Term Missions Committee member – see on the back
  • Tell committee member which trip team you are interested in
  • Fill out application including your pastor’s approval for church prayer, possible money and time support
  • Immediately apply for passport if you don’t have one – get info at the local post office
  • Begin raising own support one way or another
  • Be praying for your own heart and life preparation
  • Apprise yourself about the field of interest and missionaries serving there – learn their names
  • District STM committee will inform you about the trip details when they become available
  • A leader will be assigned to get the team together
  • Go Prepared is a video series which is a must to view prior to the trip - Contact STM Com. member
  • District churches will be informed of your trip for prayer support
  • Keep a journal just prior to going and while on the trip – Memory will not be able to remember all
  • Be very aware of you being a guest in your host country

Passport – Must be good for at least 6 months before expiring.  Get this immediately

Visa – Sometimes it is needed prior to departing the States, and sometimes you get it in-country.  Need to find out from the missionary

Field Costs – This usually includes food, housing, transportation in mission vehicles and possible project costs (i.e., funds for cement, roofing, VBS material etc. whatever is needed)

Airfare – Usually work through a travel agent dealing with missionaries.  Raptim, MTS, and Golden Rule are three available ones.  Also need to know the most convenient airports where team should arrive and depart.  Arrangement for plane tickets should be made by one person for the entire team.

Dates - Need to know the arrival and departure dates suitable for the missionaries

Items to Take - Team should be willing to take items (if possible) requested by the missionaries.  Sometimes other people have things to be taken to the missionaries that are much safer being carried into the “country” than mailing.  Should always take some gifts to the missionaries as a thank you.  Usually American candy or special mixes are appreciated.

Know the Country - It helps tremendously if you are familiar with the geography and the names of the missionaries of the host country.  Geography and culture of the country can be obtained from the internet and the missionaries’ names are available in the Official Directory (get from your pastor).
